The number of rigs exploring for oil and gas in South Texas’ Eagle Ford Shale increased by five this week to 218, according to a weekly count by Houston-based oilfield services giant Baker Hughes.
Texas — the state with the largest number of active drilling rigs — gained two during the week, increasing its total to 898. More than half of those were located in West Texas’ Permian Basin, which increased its total by three to 563.
